8th December

Britain and the USA declared war on Japan today in 1941.

In this last week we will be praying about the election itself. From the local Returning Officers down to the volunteer counters in each constituency, also the school and churches making arrangements for the use of their premises for the voting, the systems in place to transport ballot boxes to the local counting houses, security, and so much more.

  • Pray for everybody involved in the administration of this week’s election, for them to do so with integrity and to be blessed for their work
  • Pray that anyone attempting to commit a fraudulent act associated with this election may be thwarted, either by a deep conviction in their consciences not to do it or by being discovered in good time
  • Pray that the weather on Thursday does not cause anyone to be unable to vote and will not put people off from going out to vote
  • Pray that there will be no hiccups in the systems across the nation, from the most remote island community in Scotland to the tower block estates of inner cities
  • Give thanks that this is a democracy, that we make a decision together as we vote

Bible Reading: Joshua 24:14-24 Todays engaGE19.org.uk election prayer: Father God, we remember the smaller political parties and election candidates. We ask that You would restrain those who hold extreme or offensive views. Amen.

As we pray through Advent, we are preparing for the coming of Jesus. This blog is about praying for our nation in this election, so I suggest using this song as our Advent prayer each day.
