Following World War Two, the country was in ruins. Cities were filled with uncleared bomb sites, resources depleted, families mourning and there was no money. The rich nation that had existed 7 years previously was no more, and a work of restoration, change and re-building began. The country was never to be the same again as it was before, but a new society was established and new buildings rose from the rubble.
In many ways, we are in a similar position except this time it has been a verbal internal conflict. We need to pray that this election brings hostilities to an end, that the dispute is finally settled and the work of restoration of harmony and unity can begin. It will not be the same as it was before, there is no going back; whatever the outcome of this election we are a different nation.
Of course, above all, we need to restore our corporate faith in Jesus.
- Pray that where there is discord, be it political or otherwise, in this Advent season there may be the beginnings of a restoration of harmony
- Pray that the hope of the coming of Jesus might permeate the consciousness of all; that He will be seen through the preponderant presence of “Father Christmas” and materialism
- Pray that every MP in the new parliament will be a person who wants peace, not conflict, and that the parties will work together to restore harmony in our land
- Give thanks for the evangelical heart of many young Christians and pray that their generation will see a great harvest for the Kingdom which will have a deep impact on all in this land
Bible Reading: 1 Timothy 2:1-7 ENGAGE19 prayer for today: Lord of Truth and light, we pray that those involved in reporting communicate in unbiased and accurate ways. Amen.
As we pray through Advent, we are preparing for the coming of Jesus. This blog is about praying for our nation in this election, so I suggest using this song as our Advent prayer each day.
